That’s Alright Mama Chords & Guitar Lesson

Welcome to my That’s Alright Mama guitar lesson by Elvis Presley with chords and strumming pattern. This a relatively simple song using 5 open chords. You could even make it easier by ignoring the 7 chords and playing the main chords.

For example, instead of playing A7, stay on the A chord.

That’s Alright Mama Strumming Patterns:

Strumming Pattern 1:
1 2 3 + 4 +
DD DUDU

Rockabilly Pattern: with alternating bass line
1 2 + 3 4 +
BDU B DU

The rockabilly pattern alternates the bass line between the root note and the 5th of the chord. For chords A, D and E would be the lowest note of the chord, then the string below. For the A chord, it would be 5th string then 4th string. For the E chord, it would be 6th string then 5th string. For the D chord, it would be the 4th string then the 3rd string.

You can always stay on the root note of the chord if you need to make it easier.
