Someone Like You Chords & Guitar Lesson

Welcome to my Someone Like You chord chart by Adele. This is a great lesson in how to turn a piano song into a guitar song. I mean how to you go about making something that’s clearly written for piano sound decent on a guitar.

Enter Someone Like You and a little finger picking (or a regular pick if you prefer) and we can spice this song up enough to make it sound pretty cool as a guitar piece.

Someone Like You Guitar Chords:

Someone Like You Strumming Patterns:

Now, if you are not too keen on finger picking, you can always down up strumming but I don’t think is does this song much justice.

Strumming:
1 e + a  2 e + a 3 e + a  4 e + a
DU DU  DU DU  DU DU  DU DU

Picking:

Picking will follow the same 16th note rhythm. We are going to be picking the lowest 3 notes of the chord (with one exception for the 6 string chords). For example, 5 string chords like the A major chord we would pick string numbers: 5 4 3 4 5 4 3 4 to the following rhythm

1 e + a  2 e + a  3 e + a  4 e + a
54 3 4  5 4 34  5 4 3 4  5 4 3 4

For our 4 string chords like the D Major:

1 e + a  2 e + a  3 e + a  4 e +a
4 32 3  4 3 2 3  43 2 3  4 3 2 3

I personally think it sounds better with D major played as a barre chord on the 5th string 5th fret.

For our 6 string chords like E Major:

1 e + a  2 e + a  3 e + a   4 e + a
6 4 34  64 3 4  6 4 3 4  6 4 3 4

This means the bass note or lowest note of the chord will be repeated on the 1 and 3 beats. But that’s it really.
