Am Chord on Guitar

Staying true to easy open chords, the Am chord is play with fingers 1, 2 and 3 on strings 4, 3 and 2 respectively. The Am chord like the A major chord is a 5 string chord, so you should not play the top string.

If you know how to play an E major chord, it’s the same exact shape, but everything is shifted down by one string.

The Am chord usually doesn’t have to many muting issues like the A major chord and tends to be a fairly comfortable chord to play even for people with larger fingers.
