Homeward Chords & Guitar Lesson

Welcome to my Homeward Bound chord and strumming lesson by Simon & Garfunkel. I love this song but I had honestly never played it on the guitar before. Some of my students in my 7 Level Guitar Program asked if I could do a lesson on this one, so here it is!

You can scroll down for a detailed video lessons on how to play Homeward Bound on guitar which details the strumming and picking patterns as well as how to play the intro.

Homeward Guitar Chords:

You can use the regular G and Em chords if you want but I think when the fingerpicking really comes in on the second verse it sounds so much better.

Homeward Strumming Patterns:

Chorus Strumming:
1 +  2e+ a  3 + 4e + a
DD DUDU  DD DU DU

If 16th notes is hard for you to count, you could always ‘double’ the pattern. For example, this strumming pattern is played over 1 chord for 1 single measure. If you find counting 8th notes easier, you could do 2 measures per chord and count.

1 2  3+ 4+  1 2 3 + 4+
DD DU DU DD DU DU

Cool trick huh?

HOMEWARD BOUND INTRO:

     G          F   C                   G
e-|------------------------------------------
B-|--0-0-h1-p0-------------------------------
G-|--0-0-h2-p0--2-----0---0--------0-----0---
D-|-------------3-----2------------2-----0---
A-|-----------------------3------------------
E-|------------------------------------------c
