Fingerpicking for Beginners - Alternating Bass Lines

In this fingerpicking lesson for beginners, we are going to be focusing on the most important finger – the thumb.

The time is the time keeper in fingerpicking. Getting it under control will do wonders. Not only that, we will be focusing on the very important alternating bass line. This is VERY common is almost any fingerpicking song you’ve heard.

There is a Series Workbook that goes a long with these lessons that have the TAB and links to all the exercises. If you would like that course guide, please fill in your email below.

Lesson #2: The Thumb & Alternating Bass Lines

In this video lesson, we are going to get even more control of our thumb to the point where we don’t have to think about it.

The exercises in this video are designed to help you work on moving your thumb around all three of the bass strings. By the end, you should be able to play adjust strings but also hop over strings too.

Once you feel like you have a good feel for this I’m going to show you how to put the thumb and your other fingers together in one of the most common fingerpicking patterns for beginners.
